What You Need to Know About Overdraft Fees

What You Need to Know About Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when the balance in your account after we post all credits and debits for the day (“Ledger Balance”) is not enough to cover a transaction, we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

1.    We have standard overdraft practices that include Basic Overdraft Coverage that comes with your account and Extended Overdraft Coverage that does not come with your account and you must ask us to provide.

2.    We also offer an alternative overdraft coverage option, called SafetyLink, that provides automatic transfers from your Savings or Money Market account to cover overdrafts.  SafetyLink is offered at no cost and is less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about this option.

You can also decline Basic or Extended Overdraft Coverage. This notice explains our Basic Overdraft Coverage, Extended Overdraft Coverage, and your ability to decline either coverage.

What is the Basic Overdraft Coverage that comes with my account?

With Basic Overdraft Coverage, we may authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments and other recurring debit card transactions
  • Transactions made through the Automated Clearing House (“ACH”)

We generally do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions if you only have Basic Overdraft Coverage:

  • ATM Transactions (including cash withdrawals and transfers between accounts)
  • Everyday (that is, one-time) debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Arvest Bank pays my overdraft?

Using our standard overdraft practices:

We will charge you a fee of $17 each time we pay an overdraft. You will not be charged a fee if we return the transaction unpaid.

There is a maximum of 4 overdraft fees per day we can charge for overdrawing your account.

What if I want Arvest Bank to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

If you want us to authorize and pay overdrafts for your ATM and everyday debit card transactions, you must ask us to provide Extended Overdraft Coverage through the options below:

What if I do not want Arvest Bank to pay overdrafts?

If you do not want Arvest to authorize and pay overdrafts covered by Basic Overdraft Coverage, you must decline Overdraft Coverage by calling (866) 952-9523, visiting Arvest.com, in the Arvest Go mobile banking app, or visiting your nearest branch. If you decline Basic Overdraft Coverage, we will generally not pay checks, automatic bill payments, ACH transactions or other recurring debit transactions that overdraft your account.  We will not charge you a non-sufficient funds fee if the transaction is returned, but additional merchant fees may apply.  From time to time, Arvest, in our sole discretion, may pay a check, automatic bill payment, ACH transaction or other recurring debit transaction that overdrafts your account and charge you an overdraft fee of $17.  We will not charge you an overdraft fee if you decline Basic Overdraft Coverage and we choose to pay an everyday debit card or ATM transaction that overdrafts your account.
